Susan Holter
Position: Neighborhood #8 Rep
Family: Husband Scott and children Alex (6) and Heather (3)
Pets: We have a 10 year old Golden Retriever, Oscar, who we rescued 3-1/2 yrs ago.
About my family: I was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado (yes a proud Native!), and have three sisters. My father and two sisters and their families still live in Pueblo and my mother and one sister and her family live in the metro area. After college I moved to the Denver area and met my husband while working at University Hospital. We were married in 1999 and shortly after moved to the Washington DC area. Scott was raised in Northern Virginia and this gave us a chance to live near his family. While living there our son Alex was born. Growing up in Colorado made it real hard for me to adjust to East Coast living and the different climate. A few short months after Alexs birth, we moved back to Colorado. As far as I am concerned, there is no better place to live than here!!! Our family enjoys a very active lifestyle. Alex, who is in 1st grade, loves to play any sport. Right now lacrosse and flag football are tops on his list. Heather loves her preschool, gymnastics class and going to Castlewood library. This year will be the first year we will all ski together with Heather attending ski school!
Present Occupation: Right now I am a stay-at-home mom. I quit my job a year ago to spend more time with the kids and LOVE IT!!!! Prior to my new career I enjoyed working in the Healthcare Information Technology field. I worked at University Hospital before moving to Maryland and after returning for a total of 10 years. When I made the decision to be home with my kids, I was working at Catholic Health Initiatives.
Time in WH/previous location: We have lived in Walnut Hills for 6 years. We moved from Columbia, Maryland in 2001. Before that I lived in Aurora, Littleton, Evergreen, Lakewood, Greeley and Pueblo.
Why WH: I have family in Hunter Hills and had always loved this area. When we made the decision to move back to Colorado, I knew this is the area I wanted to live in. The schools are fantastic, the neighborhood is mature and the amenities can not be beat. The housing market was challenging for us. We flew here and had a week to find and buy a house. There was not much for sale in the area until the last day we were here. Our house was listed at 8:00am and we had an offer on it by 8:30am. After we moved in, we realized the fantastic benefits of being in Walnut Hills. We enjoy not having covenants, being close to good schools, libraries, parks, public transportation and having a HUGE yard. We also love the neighbors we have gotten to know and the sense of community we have here.
Changes in WH: We havent witnessed a lot of change within Walnut Hills in the last 6 years. The biggest changes have been to the areas surrounding Walnut Hills. So many more housing complexes, light rail and new businesses.
Concerns/hopes for WH: I would like to see Walnut Hills residents continue to make our neighborhood a friendly happy place. There are Civic Association sponsored events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, 4th of July Parade and Ice Cream Social that give neighbors a reason to get out and meet other WH residents, I hope more of you join us! I also hope that residents continue to take pride in their homes and properties. Walnut Hills is a special place to live and by working together we can all help keep it safe, comfortable and beautiful for all.
