  • The Walnut Hills Scholarship Program

was started in 1972 by the Walnut Hills Women’s Club with profits from holiday sales. In 1984, after an absence of several years, Diane Graham reestablished the scholarship program as an independent organization. Profits from the Walnut Hills Newsletter advertising and contributions from the Walnut Hills Civic Association support the program. She also received approval for the Walnut Hills Scholarship Fund to be a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

Starting In 2000, due to contributions directly received from the residents and continued support from the Newsletter and the Civic Association, the amount of the scholarships was significantly increased. In 2004 a Scholarship Board composed of John Fuller, Diane Graham, Jean Olson, and Joan Rowe was established with John serving as the Chair. Eric Schultz later replaced Jean Olson.

The Board meets annually to determine the amount of the scholarships based on the amount received from the residents, the Newsletter and the Civic Association. The Board also approves the application and criteria for selection of scholarship winners.

Applications for the scholarships are available from the Post Graduate Center at Cherry Creek High School or from the Chair of the Scholarship committee in January of the student’s senior year in high school. All Walnut Hills high school seniors that have been residents of Walnut Hills for two or more years are eligible.

The scholarship winners are determined by a selection committee independent of the Board, the Newsletter and the Civic Association.

Between 1972 and 2011, 114 Walnut Hills Seniors have received a total of $124,700 in scholarships.
