Dear Walnut Hills Neighbors:
Welcome to the new and improved Walnut Hills Civic Association website. We hope you find it informative and useful.
The Walnut Hills Civic Association was founded in 1965 by a group of civic minded neighbors. The stated purposes and objectives outlined in the Articles of Incorporation are:
- Promotion and improvement of public parks, schools, transportation, street lighting, and maintenance;
- Promotion and improvement of fire and police protection and of all emergency relief, civil defense and safety programs;
- Promotion of fair, equitable and just zoning, building and tax statutes, ordinance and regulations and securing fair equitable and just application of such statuettes, ordinance or regulations by governmental agencies;
- Promotion and improvement of all types of municipal, state and federal planning and services of any and every nature whatsoever;
- Promotion of friendly relations among all residents of Walnut Hills;
- Doing all other things necessary, proper or incidental to the promotion of the above stated objects and of the general welfare of the residents of Walnut Hills.
The Civic Association has thrived for the last four decades because of the support it has received from the residents. Major accomplishments include the establishment of the General Improvement District and the traffic controls at Quebec and Costilla Avenue established to prevent cut through traffic during rush hour.
You may have noticed the new fence along Dry Creek and Quebec and the improved appearance of the landscaping along Arapahoe Road and Yosemite. These are direct results of efforts of the Civic Association working with the City of Centennial to improve the appearance of our neighborhood boundaries. Other sponsored activities to keep the neighborhood beautiful include Dumpster Days and the Community Garage Sale. The Civic Association also recognizes homeowners who add to the beauty of the neighborhood by their landscaping and holiday lighting with its annual contests.
As previously mentioned the Civic Association influenced Arapahoe County to place restrictions on the entrances along Quebec during rush hour and it is now monitoring the proposed I-25/Arapahoe Road improvement project.
I hope you have had the opportunity to attend the annual activities sponsored by the Civic Association. The Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July Parade and Ice Cream Social, and National Night Out are fun for kids and adults! And they are a great way to meet your neighbors. Please consider joining the Walnut Hills Civic Association as we continue to make improvements and keep our community a strong, desirable place to live.
